Tenth student voice from my focus group (SUCCESS) after the CT.

The student voice collected from the questions showed the following:

The SUCCESS had set realistic low Achieved goals and were disappointed that they were not able to get these grades. The strategies used were past papers, revising notes and attending lunchtime tutorials.
However, these strategies did not help especially since the offer of lunchtime attendance was not considered seriously and the students seemed not to keen to do the past papers well. There seemed to be an attitude of its only a "common test" hence no effort was seen.

The same realistic target was reset and this time parents/guardians were duly informed and the Monday & Wednesday lunchtime tutorials were made compulsory. The parents/guardians want to be informed if there is no  attendance to these tutorials asap. The whanau support is great and it seems to leave the student with no choice but are seen to force an improvement on themselves.

After a week of two lunchtime tutorials in which literacy skills were taught especially keywords on each external, a past paper was given to each SUCCESS student.
The  year 13 students all achieved but none out of the four year 12 students showed progress of learning.

The Year 13 students seemed to get an intrinsic boost and were ready for more improvement.
The year 12 students need more work - incorporating more literacy skills so they recognize the achieved (surface) level questions and are able to recall the answers is the forthcoming plan during lunchtime tutorials.  The entire teaching for the year is done so in class revision will be ongoing.

Ninth student voice: Feedback from the SUCCESS students based on their latest summative results.

The Year 12 & 13 Physics classes have just completed their Electricity Common Tests.
Overall, the class has shown great improvement and the data analysis shows that the Yr 13 SUCCESS students are doing better in attempting the questions and have missed by 1 mark. The data analysis shows that the Yr 12 PHY students need more support.

The SUCCESS students were asked the following questions:
What was your target grade?
What strategies(if any) did you use to achieve your target?
What is your confirmed grade?
How did you feel when you got your grade?
Was your target grade realistic? If not, what will be your new target grade?
What are some of the ideas you have to get to your target grade before you sit the practice exams?
How can I help?

Pending on the student voice, I can try and incorporate their ideas but definitely working on using PEAL to promote E grades.

Eighth student voice - overall course evaluation.

All my classes were asked to fill out a anonymous survey on how they found the course as well as the style of teaching:
The unanimous voice showed that I have to keep on going with the style I had employed.  They appreciate the nurturing nature and there was one voice saying I can be intimidating as well.  there was another saying I need to slow down as well.  There were students that needed their homework questions answered but were lazy to check their books since answers were there for self-correction.

Any areas where MHD did particularly well? Any areas of improvement for MHD?

I don't like how you turn everything into a competition, and then somewhat put others down because they didn't do it or didn't have time. You have to somewhat understand that we wont always be able to complete the homework as we do have other classes

You make the class seem like a competition. You want us to do everything as fast as possible. I think you should check the homework questions you give us as some even you strugggle and sometimes not even related to what we have learnt. Also im not sure if you are aware that some of us cant keep up with the pace or understand somethings in class

I feel like your putting too much pressure on the students. Your still a great teacher but your incredibly intimidating. Use it wisely

Feedback was very useful, going over concepts however many times its needed to make sure everyone's got it. Maybe next year having the formatives earlier so students can get used to revising earlier.

Seventh student voice - Beginning of Term 3 analysis

Reflection questions based on pg:5 of PLG booklet:

1. Checking on the autonomy of the CUSP (& overall class) after the term break. Classwork and homework monitoring plus brief discussions were some strategies used.
2.I need to find out if my teaching style is beneficial to the particular shared class. Students appreciated and demanded the formatives at the end of each topic.
3.
4.Electronic surveys, written paper feedback, thumbs up signals, 1-1 personal discussion.
5.The student are very open to sharing their opinions in order to achieve better.
6.Next student voice is what strategies did they like? They liked the formatives and the lunchtime or personalised attention in class.
7.Based on the student voice, need to check assessments to rate achievement success.  The common test has shown a great improvement in assessment overall and the CUSP ( know called the SUCCESS) have improved with their attempting the questions even though they were slightly away froma a pass grade.
8. Completing these logs has made me more reflective and keeps me focused.
