First collection for inquiry - 14/4/2016

Inquiry: How to improve CUSP students achievement by using the Learning Rubrics in teaching and planning?

Identified CUSP students in my Level 2  and Level 3 Physics class from past historical data based on academic achievements. Liaised with Deans to correct any assumptions and noted if pastoral care was needed historically.

I used the Pakuranga Learning Rubrics to try and identify which Learning Habit/KC the students actually are not competent in which might reflect their mindset and low achievement.

An example shown below:
The student voice reflected Learning Habit 4: Striving for Improvement was common to all the CUSP students.  They all felt that they cannot ask questions ( reverse tall poppy syndrome) and that they do not put in enough effort.

' and 'based on student voice what are your next steps?'
The next step is to speak to the students to try to understand their responses at a deeper level.
Gathering their responses the plan is to apply a differentiated teaching approach with feedback at every lesson.
